The Dynamic Discs Contender: A Fairway Driver Built for Glide
The First Run Fuzion Contender is here and from the first time we put the prototype in the hands of our players, the same word kept coming up: glide.
What the Contender is
The Contender is a 9-speed fairway driver with flight numbers 9 / 6 /-1/ 1. A look at the numbers tells you it is a neutral and versatile control driver. Once you throw it, you will see how the glide could help you out drive some of your distance drivers. The Contender is built to handle a range of shots, hyzer flips, smooth turnovers, and straight fairway drives, and finesse lines down a tunnel.
Why the Glide Matters
Glide is the difference between a fairway that requires power and a fairway that rewards a smooth release. The 6 glide on the Contender helps your average thrower get more distance and better shot-shaping.
In our latest Is This Disc Right for You? video, you can see Bobby, the average player, throw it 299 feet which is at the top end of his distance currently, Anthony's return to disc golf after being gone for a year puts him in the Intermediate/Advanced level and his 421 feet throw proves that the Contender gives you smooth control even on distance shots.
Who is the Contender For
If you are newer to the sport, the Contender can be your first real driver. The 6 glide and neutral flight helps slower arm speeds get the disc up and out.
If you are intermediate to advanced, the Contender becomes a versatile control driver. When throw at the 350 to 400 foot range you will get clean hyzer flips and long pushing turnovers.
For high power and pro-level players you can finesse it with a touch of hyzer and you will get a smooth drift to the right before it glides back to center. This is ideal for long placement shots and tailwind lines.
