We Forced Each Other to Throw the “Wrong” Discs
Overstable vs Understable: Why Disc Choice Matters More Than You Think
What happens when two players lock themselves into opposite ends of the stability spectrum?
In this latest challenge, Bobby and Eric put disc selection to the test in a head-to-head battle: overstable vs understable. For the first three holes, Bobby commits to throwing only overstable discs while Eric relies strictly on understable options. Then they switch.
It sounds simple. It isn’t.
The goal of this video is not just entertainment, even though there are plenty of competitive moments and a few shots that do not go as planned. The real point is to highlight something that often gets overlooked in disc golf: choosing the right disc for your skill level matters.
A lot of newer players watch pros throw overstable drivers and assume that is what they need in their bag. It makes sense on the surface. If a top player trusts a certain disc in big moments, it must be good. The problem is that stability is directly tied to arm speed and technique. An overstable disc thrown without the power to match will not fly the way it does in highlight clips. Instead of pushing forward and fading late, it may simply dump out early and leave you short and frustrated.
Understable discs, on the other hand, are often better suited for beginners. They require less power to achieve a full flight. They help players learn angle control. They can produce more distance for developing arms. That is not a knock on overstable discs. It is about using the right tool at the right time.
This challenge makes that difference visible in real time. You can see how stability affects shot shape, distance, and confidence.
If you are working on improving your game, especially if you are newer to disc golf remember that disc stability is not about what looks cool or what the pros throw. It is about finding discs that match your current ability and help you grow.
